Create a Home Office Oasis

Create a Home Office Oasis

Create a Home Office Oasis, It’s a digitally-driven world, and if you’re an employee, you’re probably working from home right now. The daily schedule for a Work From Home employee has quickly become redefined. Let’s look at the home office: The desk is the kitchen table. The break room, whatever room you feel like that day. Zoom is the new meeting room and workplace. And your fellow employee helping you with time management and knocking your desk lamp over may have 4 paws and more concerned with finding the sun than any other task at hand. For some workers, this is the new normal. If an employee has suffered from an injury or is living with a disability, working from home or even earning a smaller wage can seem stressful. Is disability insurance worth it? Well, if your career has taken a turn, you’re working from home and trying to do a little bit of work, this is how to make your workspace worth it. In this day and age, how can you organize your at-home workspace to be a beacon of productivity, a flexible environment, and most of all a room you actually want to commute to for work each day? Plano Texas Handyman is your best resource for developing you home office, call us at 214-507-3415 or visit Plano Texas Handyman.

Whether you’re working in your studio apartment, remotely meeting in your mega-mansion, completing a task in a tiny home or discussing your job with your employer from your parents’ house, I’ve put together the following tips in an employee guide to working from home, retaining productivity, keeping focus, and finding a workspace that keeps you focused (and accomplished). Create a Home Office Oasis

Have Supportive Seating and an Adjustable Standing Desk

Yes, we consider this combination to be ideal when it comes to creating a true home office sanctuary. Even if you may not have much space, and your home office is technically a desk shoved against a wall in your living room, having both an ergonomic office chair and a standing height desk that you can adjust is possible, due to the numerous options available in all different sizes. Already have a desk? Simply add an adjustable monitor and keyboard option that allows you to stand or sit whenever your heart desires. Having such a set up not only ensures comfort as you can move around and work however works best, but it also promotes a healthy working lifestyle by encouraging movement.

Keep it Clean

Even if you sometimes feel you perform better with a more “lived-in” look, research shows that we mostly work better and feel better in clean environments. Additionally, a cleaner space reflects a more professional image and can also help you stay more organized and on top of your tasks. Here are some tips for keeping your desk surface in tip top shape. Need more organized drawers? Delve into our top tips about getting and keeping your drawers organized. Create a Home Office Oasis

Have the Proper Lighting

Natural light is best, so whenever possible, try to position your desk in a way that you’ll have lots of natural light or even select a room for your home office that has access to numerous windows. Natural light immediately helps you to be more productive and has been shown to be a mood booster. If you have limited access to natural light, be sure to consider overhead lighting and task lighting. Task lighting is usually incredibly important for office settings, as it’s designed to sit on desk tops and support your eyes as you focus intently on the work in front of you. Create a Home Office Oasis

Make it Yours

While you don’t want to get hung up on every decorative detail, making your home office “yours” certainly goes a long way when it comes to creating an inspiring, yet comfortable space. Adding photos, artwork and maybe even a cute DIY project here and there will reflect your personality and make your office more of a true sanctuary for you. Having your favorite snacks on hand and perhaps your favorite music just a click away are other ways to make sure that your space truly reflects you and what you like to surround yourself with. Create a Home Office Oasis

Get the Temperature Right

There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable within your office space, whether your shivering in the winter or sweating in summer, a workspace that you constantly feel uncomfortable within can make working less efficient. So, hiring boiler or AC Services in Ormond Beach, FL, or wherever you reside, so that your home office is at the perfect temperature for you all year round, which would reap huge benefits with work productivity.

The HVAC can do much more than controlling the temperature- improve the indoor air quality (or IQA) with proper air circulation. As you are spending more time indoors for work, checking the IQA can benefit your overall well-being. Examine the walls to see if you are facing any mold, bacterial problems, and dust mites due to high humidity as these could hurt your health. You can remedy this by keeping your air conditioner’s air filters clean and in working condition. Call an HVAC contractor like the ones at No Problem Heating and Cooling: air quality solutions to get them checked properly.

Incorporate Nature

Bringing the outdoors in is another way to make your home office a true sanctuary. Whether in the form of a small plant or a large salt water fish tank, nature has both a calming and restorative effect that can greatly impact your mood and productivity levels.

Office Equipment

In order to be efficient, the home office should be equipped with all the tools you need to properly execute your job – the computer, high speed internet, desk phone, headset, printer, paper shredder, etc. Make sure you are stocked up on office supplies too! Many companies want hard wired internet connections since WiFi connections are not secure, make sure you have a hard-wired connection to protect your privacy and company assets. Many homeowners compile a list of repairs and home expert to complete the list in a single visit.

The term “handyman” is loosely defined. Some are self-trained, while others have formal training in various aspects of construction and home repair. A home repair person might specialize in a few types of home maintenance, such as painting, carpentry, or tiling, while others may have additional skills such as plumbing and electrical expertise. There’s no national standard or regulation for home repair person. You can read more here to know all about the Licensing and regulation vary by state. New Jersey, for example, requires home repair person who work for a profit to register with the state and carry insurance. California requires handymen to carry a license from the State Contractors License Board to work on any project that exceeds $500 in labor and material costs. Find out before you hire the handyman if he or she has the skills needed to complete your project.

Do you need a handyman or contractor?
The scope of the job and level of skill required to complete it should determine whether you’re choosing the right contractor or a home repair person. “When trying to determine who you should hire for a particular job, consider the task,” says Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List. “If it’s a specialized trade, be sure you hire that tradesperson like a plumber or electrician, for example. If it’s little things that you can do yourself, a handyman is probably the right way to go.”  The Best Handyman in Plano Texas

A home repair person is not the best option for a large or complicated project that could take a long time to complete and requires the help of multiple workers. You shouldn’t turn to a handyman either if you need an emergency service for plumbing, electrical or appliance work, unless the home repair person is licensed in that trade. If an unlicensed person does plumbing or electrical work, you have no guarantee that the work has been done to code, which could affect your homeowners insurance policy or any claim related to the work. Use a contractor or specialist for remodeling work, room additions and projects that require heavy-duty equipment or licensed professionals like electricians.

Why hire a handyman?
You’ve got an ever increasing to-do list of small home improvements like changing out a bathroom faucet, replacing missing shingles on the roof and painting a kitchen wall. You could hire a plumber, roofer and painter who have conflicting schedules and their own service charges, or you could hire a handyman or this roofing company in Pocatello, Idaho who can help you with all them residential or commercial repairs to complete all three projects in one day for an hourly rate. Of course, as helpful as handymen are, they can only do so much. For example, if you’ve got a major issue with your roof or it needs replacing then Click Here to find a reliable roofing company as they will be able to handle a job of that magnitude whereas a handyman wouldn’t. It’s important to be realistic and we will tell you whether we think a job is too big. However, if you’ve got a handful of small home improvements that need doing, we’re the people to go to!

Because many handymen charge by the hour, a homeowner can save time and money on home improvement projects by hiring one to complete a wide range of projects at an hourly rate. A service charge from a plumber or roofer to come to your home could equal or even surpass the cost of hiring a handyman for a few hours. When your roof’s condition goes beyond simple repairs, Ribbon Roofing’s residential roofing contractors can replace it with a stronger, more modern one.

You’re also less likely to be overcharged if your hire a handyman. Unlike a general contractor or specialist who is more likely to price a job based on the estimated amount of time it will take to complete, you only have to pay a handyman for the hours he works, unless you agree on a flat rate. Handymen can keep their rates low because they don’t have to pay additional workers, so they have lower overhead costs than contractors or large companies.

Although handymen have less overhead, they do supply their own tools, so there’s no need to invest in extra equipment you won’t use often or at all. However, you will need to supply the materials.

When you hire a contractor or specialist, they usually supply the materials, and often at a markup. If they don’t provide the materials, they may not guarantee a repair, or your choices are limited to what they have in stock. When you choose your own materials, you know how much the product costs, and you can stay within your budget. You also get to choose the manufacturer, finish and register any warranty agreement.

Handymen have been known to do all types of work, from setting up playground equipment and gas grills to hanging holiday lights and decorations.

Ideal jobs for a handyman
Handymen are best utilized for small, “honey-do” types of home repair work. The following projects are ideal for most home repair persons:

Minor plumbing work: Many home repair persons are capable of completing small plumbing jobs like installing new fixtures or repairing a leaky faucet. However, complex projects that require relocating plumbing within the home should be left to a licensed plumber.  Plano Texas Handyman, Plano Best Handyman

Caulking: Adding a fresh application of caulk to gaps between windows, doors and siding is a great way to improve energy efficiency and lower utility costs.

Decks and porches: Over time, weather can take a toll on wooden decks and porches. A handyman can replace broken boards, apply a finish or sealant and improve or upgrade your deck or porch’s safety and appearance.

Home Automation: We can fully integrate your home into a “smart home”.  We have extensive electrical engineering experience and can automate your home easily.Home exterior repairs: If you have minor damage to your home’s exterior, such as a loose piece of siding or a missing shingle, hiring a handyman to repair those items may prove to be more cost-effective than hiring a specialist.  The Best Handyman in Plano Texas

Painting and touch-ups: If you have a small painting job, like a wall, garage door, touch-ups of scuff marks or the repair of small holes with spackle, consider a handyman. But remember, a handyman typically charges by the hour, so larger jobs are better suited for a professional painting crew.

Hanging window treatments, pictures and mirrors and installing light fixtures: These small tasks can be easily accomplished by a homeowner. But if you hire a home repair person with the right tools and experience, these wall-mounted items will likely be hung correctly and without damage.

Tips to hire a handyman
Interview several candidates before hiring a candidate. A handyman works closely with you in your home, so you want to pick one that you feel comfortable being around. Use the following tips to help you choose the best one:

1. Define the project. Start by compiling a list of the home repairs you want completed. Remember, a handyman is best used for small jobs such as installing light fixtures, patching drywall and interior painting. If the job requires pulling a permit, or moving plumbing or electrical wiring, consider hiring a licensed contractor.

2. Shop around. Check Angie’s List reviews and interview at least three handymen. Ask how many years of experience they have and their areas of specialization. Request references from homeowners who have hired them. Make sure the potential handyman has the skills and experience to complete your project.

3. Watch out for scams. Avoid handymen who contact you with unsolicited phone calls or visits to your home. You should also avoid any handyman who refuses to guarantee the price of the job or asks for payment upfront. Reputable handymen don’t expect to get paid before the project is completed.

4. Get it in writing. Insist on a written agreement laying out the job details, costs and payment schedule. Be clear about the times you expect the work to be started and completed. It’s extremely important to get all guarantees in writing.

5. Ask for a guarantee. Many handymen will guarantee their work for up to one year. Ask about guarantees before you make a hiring decision, and of course, make sure the guarantee is in writing.

6. Inspect the work. Inspect the completed work before paying the handyman. Make sure that everything has been done to your satisfaction and at the agreed upon price. Most handymen will be happy to explain the finished work because they want you to be satisfied.

Convert Fluorescent tubes to LED

Once upon a time, fluorescent lighting was the most cost effective and energy efficient lighting solution around. But today, LED lighting outperforms fluorescent lighting in a number of ways that would you make you wonder, why haven’t I made the switch? Convert Fluorescent tubes to LED

There are two ways to go about making the switch to efficient and long-lasting LED lights from your old fluorescent lights: the long way or the short way.

You can redo the whole lighting by replacing your existing fluorescent fixture with a full new LED fixture or you can convert your existing fixtures to work with LED.

Today we will give you simple explanations to both ways in an attempt to make it easier for you to understand how to convert fluorescent tubes to LED tubes and how to replace your fluorescent light fixture.

But first, you’ll need to have a solid understanding of how LED light bulbs differ from the previous technologies, especially compared to traditional fluorescent tubes.

So what is the difference you ask? Simple, ballast is the key difference!

Call Plano Texas Handyman to convert you Fluorescent fixtures to LED. Call us at 214-507-3415. Convert Fluorescent tubes to LED

What is the ballast? And why do LED tubes not need one?

The ballast is a wired-in component inside a fluorescent fixture that regulates the electrical current to provide a steady flow of energy for fluorescent lights.

In short, a ballast keeps your house current from acting up (and down) to avoid causing accidents from your energy use. Convert Fluorescent tubes to LED

Fortunately, LED technology does not require a ballast to regulate energy flow as they are much more stable in comparison. In fact, the most energy-efficient LEDs will bypass the ballast by removing it entirely from the fixture.

A ballast bypass is a common procedure and method that removes the ballast from the existing fixture. The bypass method is often required for most retrofit installations that are not using plug-and-play LED tubes. It is an easy process that reduces energy draw and prevents any potential functionality problems. More importantly, the ballasts uses energy to do its job so by not bypassing it, the ballast will add around 10% of the light fixture’s energy use.

Our installation guides include instructions on how you can remove a fluorescent tube’s ballast yourself.

Three ways you can convert your existing fluorescent tubes to LED tubes

1. Retrofit the fluorescent tube

You can easily retrofit a fluorescent tube using plug and play or hybrid LED tubes. They are known as ‘universal ballast compatible’, and remove the need for any complex wiring. The installation process is as simple as following the instructions to slide in and connect your new LED tube. This is not a good choice since you still have the ballast in place.

Plug and play tubes do come with some disadvantages, though, such as:

  • Potential Ballast failure (plug-and-play tubes utilize the existing tube’s ballast)
  • Higher energy usage (when compared to other LED tubes)
  • Potential ballast incompatibility.

plug and play vs ballast compatible hyperikon

Note the difference in energy use when using a plug and play option. Read more about the future of plug and play tubes here.

2. Retrofit the tube and ballast

Direct-wire tubes can be used to retrofit the tube and bypass the ballast. This can be achieved by disconnecting wires to the ballast and tying it off with wire nuts. The fixture is then rewired using the provided wiring diagram before the installation of any LED tubes. Convert Fluorescent tubes to LED

Only problem is, this is more difficult than retrofitting the tube alone and, as is the case with other electrical installations, requires the fixture’s power to be disconnected at source. However, it is worth your effort — retrofitting the tube and the ballast will eliminate problems emanating from ballast failure and incompatibility. Plus, it’s more cost-efficient than other methods in the long run.

how to convert flourescent to led ballast bypass installation

3. Replace the whole fixture

Of course, you can always replace your entire fluorescent fixture with an LED one. The easiest way to do this is to use magnetic mount kits or an LED panel or troffer. Replacing entire fixtures can be more expensive than simply retrofitting old tubes however, and does require rewiring as well as possible ceiling remodeling where the old fixtures once were.

The benefits are often worth it though, culminating in lighting fixtures that are modern, slimmer, longer-lasting and more versatile in how and where they can be installed than ever before.

Replacing fixtures is by all accounts a future-proof and long-lasting option.

There it is. Now you should know how to convert your fluorescent lights to LED.

If you are still unsure of how to make the switch – simply call our customer representatives and let them find the best possible solution for you.
