Hot Home Renovations

Kitchen Remodeling Costs

Hot Home Renovations – There are those of you who remodel based solely on your own interests and others who renovate based on the popular trends in housing. Each side has its pros and cons, but for the purpose of this article, I will focus on the hot housing trends that are sure to be popular in 2016. Call Ted at Plano Texas Handyman to discuss how we can make these a reality – 214-507-3415

Remodeling based on current and future trends vastly improves your odds of recouping the cost you put into the home. Like for instance a lot of people focus on shower glass in their bathrooms because they are on-trend at the moment. While very few projects recoup 100% of the total cost you put into it, some retrieve more than others. Therefore, I analyzed data from the three most recent Remodeling’s Cost Vs. Value reports to find the most ROI-friendly remodeling projects. Hot Home Renovations

If the past three years are any indication, the following 10 home remodeling ideas are sure to remain valuable in 2016.

1. Entry Door Replacement
Surprising to many, but the most valuable remodeling project for the last three years (in terms of cost recovered) has been entry door replacement (steel) and the value is only going up. From 2013 to 2015, the cost recouped was 73%, 97% and 102% respectively. Other possible replacements that are popular is new stair parts from Pear Stairs when they are either damaged or in need of a facelift.

According to our entry door replacement cost guide, the average cost to replace a front door ranges from $400 to $850. While the total cost and added value is not near that of major remodeling projects, such as full kitchen or bathroom remodels, in terms of ROI, entry door replacement can’t be beat. 2. Bathroom Remodel
Moving to upscale projects, those that require more time and money, bathroom remodels will always be one the most popular home remodeling projects across the nation.

The bathroom, as we all know, is the most trafficked room in the home. It’s the only room that you must enter two times a day (assuming you brush your teeth twice) and one of two rooms (bathroom and kitchen) that really sells houses. No matter whom you ask, assuming all other elements of the home are sound, bathrooms and kitchens sell homes.

According to Remodeling, the average recouped value over the past three years has hovered around 60%. Nonetheless, as most bathroom remodels in their report cost around $51,000 (remember, upscale), the added value is quite high. Therefore, even if you put in $10,000 towards a bathroom, you can expect to retrieve $6,000 the day you sell the house. Hot Home Renovations

3. Garaged Door Remodel or Addition
Another high ROI renovation project is garage door replacement. Once again, the total added value does not compare to major remodels, but the percentage recouped is hard to beat.

The percentage retrieved for the last three years was 88%, 83% and 75% (2013). As you can see, we are trending in the right direction. Considering that the average garage door installation or replacement cost is $964, you can expect to recoup $848 at resale. Hot Home Renovations

4. Minor Kitchen Remodel
Sooner or later, we were going to get to the crown jewel of them all. The kitchen sells homes. If you want to get rid of your home, spend your money in the kitchen. This is where potential homeowners envision themselves and will more often than not, make or break the sale.

From 2013 to 2015, the average percentage recouped from minor kitchen remodels was 75%, 83% and 79%. By Remodeling’s standard, minor kitchen renovation projects are those under $20,000. Hot Home Renovations

5. Major Kitchen Remodel
While the average kitchen renovation may be less, many homeowners are spending more than $20,000 on their kitchen remodel projects. Fortunately, they are still recouping more than 65% of that cost back when it comes time to sell. Some of the kitchen aspects many homeowners remodel are:

Countertops
Cabinets
Flooring
Undercabinet Lighting
Lighting
Islands
Storage

Bare in mind that with a major kitchen remodel, all of your equipment and items will have to be moved out of the kitchen, . If a major kitchen remodel is something you’re considering, looking into something like pueblo co storage units to store your personal items during the renovation is a wise idea or try getting a Custom Cabinet Designer to do your new cabinets.

6. Deck Addition
Especially for those of you in the Midwest or East, many of us try to take advantage of nice weather throughout the year. After all, when at least a third of the year is ruined by snow, we learn to appreciate cool, sunny days.

One way to really take advantage of the nice weather is by enjoying it on a deck. According to the report, most homeowners recoup at least 80% of the total cost after adding a wood deck. That was a big increase from 2013 when there was only a 67% average. Therefore, as the average price to build a deck is $6,148, homeowners can expect to retrieve $4,918. Hot Home Renovations

7. Siding Replacement
Believe it or not, there are many different kinds of siding. While vinyl certainly dominated the industry last decade, other options are starting to creep up the list as more homeowners are going with wood, brick or stone as well. Hot Home Renovations

Nonetheless, many homeowners bought their homes with vinyl siding and do not want to change the exterior. Fortunately, the average recoup percentage for vinyl siding repair and replacement has increased for the last three years from 72% in 2013 to 78% in 2014 and 81% in 2015. Just know that while the average price to repair siding is $545, while the average to install balloons up to $7,415. Hot Home Renovations

8. Attic Bedrooms
Many homeowners are adding or converting rooms into bedrooms as a result of elderly parents moving in or children returning from college. Well, according to the report, many homeowners are converting their attics into bedrooms.

To no surprise, added bedrooms vastly increase the value of your home. Bigger families demand homes with more bedrooms and as a result, pay more. In 2015, the addition of an attic bedroom cost $51,000, but 77% of that was retrieved at the time of the sale. If you are considering adding a bedroom, but not sure if the cost is worth the headache, please see 7 Benefits Of A Home Addition. Hot Home Renovations

9. Window Replacement
The window industry has changed dramatically over the years as more homeowners become energy efficient. As such, they are replacing their old, beat-up windows with energy-efficient windows (from somewhere like MWT Windows, for example) that keep all that expensive warm air in the home where it belongs. In 2015, those who got a window replacement done retrieved roughly 75% of the total cost.

The overall price for replacement windows will depend on the window type and number of windows you choose to update. More often than not, residential window design and manufacturing companies will offer a discount to homeowners replacing more than three windows at once, so keep this mind if you are thinking of getting a new window installation

10. Personalized Projects
Despite all the remodeling ideas above, personalized projects will always be on the list of most popular renovations. If you want to paint your kitchen orange, go ahead. If you want to add a third sink to your bathroom, do it! After all, you are the one living in your home. You have to stare at your kitchen walls and use that bathroom every day. If it makes you happy, do it.

Just know that when it comes time to sell, chances are, no one will enjoy an orange kitchen wall. Better to make all common, neutral updates before listing your home. Hot Home Renovations

Conclusion
If you are looking to recoup the value of your next home remodeling project, start with these 10 projects. If the last three years are any indication, they will remain some of the most valuable home renovation projects across the nation. Hot Home Renovations

Luxurious Super Showers

Bathroom Design Planning

Luxurious Super Showers – What’s a super shower, you might ask? Imagine an oversized walk-in shower that’s tiled from floor to ceiling on all sides. Some might have multiple showerheads and offer a specialized lighting scheme. The showerheads are so advanced, it’s almost as if they’re the best dual shower heads in 2020! Much more advanced than the common showerhead. They’re pretty super, and they’re becoming more sought-after in master bathrooms. The trend is to remove the oversized tub and replace it with a slimmer freestanding tub,” Payson says. “The newer freestanding tubs are almost pieces of art themselves. Their style is very elegant and romantic, almost like a glass slipper.

In the 1980s, a decade known for excess and impracticality, homeowners installed — though rarely used — oversized soaking tubs. Today, homeowners are choosing more practical bathroom features. Vertical spa systems — larger showers with rain showerheads, multiple body jets and handshowers — have become de rigueur in bathroom renovations. Some have argued that this new trend is for a more modern home, while others believe it’s to make the bathroom more accessible to older homeowners. Whichever is the case, the trend continues to grow, and with the help of plumbing services similar to Dependable Rooter & Plumbing (https://dependablerootersac.com/plumbing-services/), homeowners can get the best out of this new trend.

“The enclosures showers systems continue to outperform other areas in the bath in terms of where people are putting their money,” says Mark Knurek, senior project manager at Moen. “Everyone wants a good shower.”
Here are the latest trends in showers:

No Doors
A standalone shower no longer means a glass door on a track. Now it means a frameless, glass shower that virtually disappears into the room and keeps a small bathroom from looking cramped. A walk-in, doorless shower, sometimes called a wet room, showcases tile work and can accommodate an elaborate, spa-like shower system, but if you do decide to install a glass shower door, look for a custom glass door for a more luxurious look.

A doorless, curbless shower with a Custom walk-in shower base is practical as well as luxurious. “A lot more people are requesting showers they can walk right into,” says Beverley Binns, of Binns kitchen + bath design in Ontario, Canada. “It’s a visual design thing, but I think people are also making greater investments in their home and planning on staying in their homes longer.” Showers without doors create a universal design that will allow a homeowner to continue to use the fixture as they get older and their mobility is limited.

Water Temperature and Setting Controls
Thermostatic, programmable shower technology is the ultimate in shower luxury. Systems like Moen’s Iodigital system monitor a shower’s water temperature and automatically adjust water flow when the dishwasher, washing machine and toilet are in use.
The Iodigital has four presets that give the user the exact water temperature and pressure desired, ranging from warm, gentle morning shower to cool, high-pressure, post-workout shower. This could benefit a lot of people. Of course, contacting a company similar to TDT Plumbing will ensure that you achieve optimum hot water levels throughout your home if you wanted to experience the same sort of temperatures as what this shower can provide you with. It also features a remote control that operates from a distance of up to 30 feet. You can turn on the shower from the bedroom, and get the desired water temperature by the time you reach the bathroom. Love a long, hot shower? The unit’s LED lights will flash when the hot water tank nears empty.

New Take on Rain Showerheads
Hans Grohe’s Raindance Rainfall takes rain showerhead technology to a new level. The flat rectangular panel mounts flush against the wall and projects water into the shower area. The unit features three settings: the Rain AIR mode mixes air with water to create big, rain-like water droplets; In Whirl mode massages the user with two rotating jets that automatically tilt forward; and Rainflow mode produces a four-inch-wide waterfall spray. If there is any repair required for the shower, Shower Repairs Perth can help with the repairs.

Lights and Music
Chromatherapy, a popular choice for spa tubs, is also available for shower systems. Kohler’s WaterTile Ambient Rain chromatherapy panel incorporates ambient light patterns to heighten a bather’s experience. Think of it as mood lighting for the bath. A lighted square ceiling panel includes four WaterTile body sprays. The user can select solid colors or one of the preprogrammed chromatherapy sequences that range from a bright and invigorating pattern to a soft and soothing one.
Music in the bath is nothing new, but sound in the shower gets a boost with speakers designed to look like body spray tiles. The Kohler SoundTile is a high-fidelity speaker developed in cooperation with Polk Audio, a designer and manufacturer of high-performance audio products.

Water Conservation
A super shower that conserves water might seem counterintuitive, and it is the reason some people opt for a hot tub. When it comes to luxury, nothing beats the high end hot tubs like the 67 jets swim spa. Some people design their bathroom around both options being available as well.

Eco-minded homeowners can have their high-end shower and be kind to the planet, too. Moen’s line of Eco Performance showerheads reduce the flow of water, but still provide a satisfying shower experience. The Envi Eco-Performance Rainshower, an eight-inch rain showerhead, uses 20 percent less water than the industry standard. Another water-saving option, a three-function transfer valve diverts water from a showerhead to a handshower to a set of body sprays.

She Sheds Grow in Popularity as Woman Retreats

Holiday Home Repairs

Move over, man cave! Women escaping to ‘She Sheds’  A DEMAND for “she sheds” — the female take on a man cave — has sparked a surprising building phenomenon. The trend has seen women in Dallas and around the world erect private sanctuaries in their gardens to escape the stresses of modern life and spend time away from their partners and families.  Ted at Plano Texas Handyman can design a “She Shed” to fit your needs – call today at 214-507-3415 for design ideas. Plano Texas Handyman Service

Men have their man caves, and now women are getting their own special spot: She Sheds.

The idea, which has been gaining steam across Pinterest as the weather warms up, is that women transform backyard sheds into a hideaway where they can escape the daily grind. And for several women, the escape is making a major difference.

Sandra Foster created a She Shed in her Highland park Dallas Home. She uses the shed, which has a sofa, books and even a loft with a bed, to escape the pressure and stress of work, and to get space from her husband when it’s needed.

Considering developing your own She Shed? Ted Vinci from Plano Texas Handyman” offered her tips on how to make it happen:

1. Give it a fresh coat. Ted suggests painting the entire space—whether it’s a shed or any other derelict outbuilding—a bright white shade, floors included. This, he says, can “give it a breath of fresh life!” Do you need shade sails of the highest quality in Australia? You can get a free onsite quote or call 0419604966 if you would like to inquire about a sun shade sail structure. Shade Extreme is a residential shade sail manufacturers in Perth.

2. Bring the outside in. Let your shed feel like an extension of the outside space that surrounds it for an airy, tranquil vibe. Ted says, “Adding a feminine floral print will bring the garden inside, and create more depth to the She Shed.” Plus, he suggests adding some live plants within the space.

3. Get comfortable. You want your She Shed to be a place where you can feel relaxed and pampered. To that end, furnish it with pieces that feel cozy and serene. “Placing a daybed, topped with lots of comfy pillows will bring the comfort, and make it a space you actually want to spend your time,” Ted says.

4. Decorate your way. Whatever your aesthetic, run wild with it — after all, it’s your own space to define any way you wish! Ted suggests you might complete your look with “lots of layered rugs and sitting poufs, a small vintage desk and a comfy chair to work from.”

5. Don’t forget the outside. Ted suggests hanging window boxes, for instance with flowers and vines. He adds, “Lastly, hang some globe lights around the exterior for an inviting look!”  Plano Texas Handyman Service

The structures they are building tend to be more elaborate than the basic tin sheds men have traditionally used for stowing things such as power tools and range from cabins carved from pink wood and old French doors to $110,000 granny flats.

Sisters in a Dallas Suburb in their granny flat behind their parents’ Newport home. Custom sheds designer Ted of Plano Texas Handyman said his company alone has been engaged in 20 projects where women have commissioned a backyard space to call their own.

“Every one of them had a different need for it. They’re using the sheds for almost everything,” ” he said.

She-sheds are popping up all over.
Part of their popularity is that they give women an opportunity to enjoy their gardens with minimal interference, and to pursue creative projects.

Natalie Holt has a she-shed out the back of her South Lake Texas home and said she had always wanted a space she could use in the same way men use garages or rooms they’ve turned into man caves.

“It’s my little sanctuary,” she said. “I go there when I want an escape.”

Building the shed was also a way to pursue her passion of finding new uses for recycled materials, she said.

Her shed is built from repurposed weatherboards and windows that she found in salvage yards and even has a solar-powered chandelier.

Ladies’ sanctuaries are in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours.

“He gets it,” she said. “He has his ‘lair’ where he keeps his tools. This is mine.

“Sometimes I’ll sit inside with a glass of chardonnay, but most of the time I go there just to think. The rest of the family knows not to come in when the door is closed.”  Plano Texas Handyman Service,  call today at 214-507-3415 for design ideas. Plano Texas Handyman.

She Sheds

Sheds Woman retreats. Woman retreats are the new personal getaways new personal getaways. The masses have gone wild over “she sheds.” These personal getaways in garage sheds are the alternative to the man cave, a place for women to read, relax, practice a hobby, or pot up plants, among other solo activities. Whether you’re building from scratch or sprucing up an old outbuilding, these ideas fr

Men need their space. But so too do women. Whether it’s a shed for business or a shed for relaxation, women definitely need their own space. But while some men prefer to dwell in their Man Caves, some woman prefer an alternative place to relax. Such as the She-Shed.

Whereas Man Caves are usually a part of the house somehow, say hidden in the basement or the garage perhaps, She-Sheds are typically situated in the garden. Sometimes they can end up being a she shed office for the modern women to improve her productivity. There are no set rules to how a She-Shed should be constructed. Some turn them into reading areas while others use their She-Sheds as craft rooms or even miniature yoga studio sheds. Sheds Woman retreats.

Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Paint Kitchen Cabinets

Painting Kitchen Cabinets – Plano Texas Handyman has developed a sound method of Painting Kitchen Cabinets:  Not all cabinets are worth painting by Professional Painters. They must be structurally sound—paint obviously isn’t a cure for doors that are falling apart or don’t close properly. If your cabinets are oak or some other species with coarse grain and you want a smooth finish, we will have to fill the grain on the door panels, cabinet frames and cabinet sides with spackling compound. That nearly doubles the length of this project because sanding the compound takes a long, long time (but if you don’t mind a coarse finish, we can skip this step).  Call Ted at Plano Texas Handyman at 214-507-3415 to talk about a cabinet refinish project. s

If you like the style of your cabinets and they’re in good shape, and you’re willing to make the investment, this project is for you! Melbourne house painters can assist you with this task and make sure they get the job done perfectly.

Plano Texas Handyman step 1: Clean all cabinets
We wash off years of kitchen grease with specialized designed cleaning solvents for cabinets. We clean away all the grease or the primer and paint won’t adhere. The we rinse clean with water.

As with any successful painting project, preparation is the key—and the most time-consuming step. In most cases we remove the cabinet doors and drawers as well as all the hardware.

Plano Texas Handyman step 2: We then wash the grease off the cabinet frames in the kitchen, too. Then tape off everything that abuts the cabinet frames. We cover and use 1-mil plastic sheeting or brown masking paper to cover appliances. We use rosin paper for countertops—it’s thick enough to resist tears and won’t let small paint spills seep through.

Plano Texas Handyman step 3:,We then give the cabinets a fresh start with primer

Plano Texas Handyman step 4: We fix scratches, holes and dings with spackling compound. Work the compound into the damaged area with a putty knife. Fill in holes from handles and hardware if you’re replacing the hardware and need holes in different places.

Some cabinets, like ours, have a catalyzed lacquer finish that’s very hard. Primer won’t form a good bond to this surface unless you scuff it up first. First sand any damaged areas on the doors or cabinet frames with 320-grit sandpaper to remove burrs or ridges, then fill the areas with spackling compound.

Plano Texas Handyman step 5: We then lightly sand the doors and cabinet frames, trim and sides with 320-grit sandpaper. We sand just enough to take off the shine—we don’t need to sand off the finish. We then vacuum the dust off the wood using a bristle attachment. Right before we’re ready to apply the primer, wipe down the doors and frames with a tack cloth. Running the cloth over the surface is enough — we don’t need to scrub to remove the fine dust particles.

Plano Texas Handyman step 6:  We apply a stain-killing primer with a paintbrush.

Plano Texas Handyman step 7: Once the primer is dry (just one or two hours), we lightly sand the doors and cabinets with 320-grit sandpaper to remove any brushstrokes. Sandpaper works better than a sanding sponge—because we can feel the rough spots through the paper, and paper doesn’t round over corners like sponges do.

Plano Texas Handyman step 8:  For this project, we used a couple of Control Spray Double Duty automotive spray guns. The high-volume, low-pressure (HVLP) sprayer gives the doors a thin, even coat of paint and makes quick work of painting. We sprayed our doors and drawer

s and trim a second coat. Spray a first coat on the door fronts (Photo 9).

Cover the drawers with masking paper or plastic sheeting so only the paintable surface is visible. Set the drawer face down on the turntable and spray the back. Then place the drawer on it

Finishing your kitchen cabinets and painting them properly is a much more cost effective method than a complete kitchen remodel.  In most cases it will cost you a fraction of the cost of a new kitchen.  Plano Texas Handyman can create a beautiful alternative to give you that fresh look.  Call today at 214-507-3415

Trends in Deck Design

Deck Design

Trends in Deck Design – Outdoor living is (still) in:
Really so much more than a trend, outdoor living is our new way of … well, living. Used for eating, entertaining, watching television, and so much more, today’s decks have truly become extensions of indoor spaces.

Call acoya to talk about a beautiful outdoor deck project, they offer wood decking with a 25 year warranty

Trends in Deck Design

Hot tubs, sound systems, fireplaces and even full kitchens (if the budget allows) are still popular — and paying dividends in terms of increased comfort and functionality. Multi-level decks with designated areas for cooking, eating, or relaxing are in high demand. Curved angles, custom staircases, and built-ins galore add visual interest as well as provide creative solutions for challenging spaces. Wanting a deck is completely understandable with the many perks that they bring. However, homeowners do have to take into consideration that decks do need care. Luckily, there are many services that offer a deck wash for your decking to keep it looking as good as new, so this shouldn’t be much of an issue. Before designing your decking, it’s probably best to try and prepare your garden for the building. A lot of homeowners these days seem to be making use of screw piles to strengthen the base of their decking. This is a popular method these days, particularly with people trying to create multi-levels. When doing this, the foundation and structure of the deck needs to be secure. For homeowners in Ontario, it might be worth trying to find an Ontario based company, Mascore is a good example of a company who could offer homeowners advice about screw piles for their decking. It’s always beneficial to contact a professional before trying to install a deck yourself.
Gazebos and screened-in porches keep decks dry and bug-free, while retractable awnings provide protection against the hot summer sun, check this online catalog https://forbrukerguiden.no/markiser-priser/ to buy yours. Colorful fabrics and high-quality furnishings lend the same style and sophistication to the deck as they do to the home. “Marsala” may have been the Pantone color for 2015, but summer décor seems to lend itself naturally to nautical navy and white, often punctuated by pops of bright red or orange. Other perennial favorites: tropical palettes featuring hot pink, lime green, and lemon yellow, or classic black and white color schemes accented with bright turquoise or lime green. Deck Design, Trends in Deck Design

A smooth transition plan: hidden fasteners are everywhere. To keep the transition from indoors to outdoors as seamless as possible, homeowners are using hidden fastener systems with their decking. Special clips attach to the sides of pre-grooved boards to secure the decking to the substructure. A Sunshine Coast decking builder, if you’re in Australia, would be able to create this seamless look. There’s no need for surface screws or nails, so the deck is smooth and free of indentations, nail pops, and other distractions. With hidden fasteners, outside flooring is as polished as inside flooring. It’s a smart idea that’s quickly becoming the industry standard.

Composite decking gains new fans among busy homeowners. As consumers are repurposing their decks, they are also reconsidering their decking materials. Click-Deck has a wide range of high quality decking tiles available from acacia hardwood, composite and artificial grass, visit deckingx.co.uk for more details. Composite decking is gaining new fans all the time. Two principal reasons are its low maintenance requirements and high proportion of recycled content, according to industry analyst group Principia. Homeowners simply don’t have the time or inclination to spend their weekends refinishing or repainting decks and railing. Deck Design

The composite decking never needs staining, sanding or refinishing

Capped composites are highly resistant to mold, stains, fading and scratching, and require little more than an occasional cleaning with soap and water. Plus, using wood waste and recycled plastics (both of which we use in Fiberon decking), diverts tens of thousands of pounds of discarded materials from landfills and incinerators each year – something any eco-conscious consumer can appreciate. Deck Design, Trends in Deck Design

A splash of color; a pop of personality

So what are the popular colors in composite deck boards? Here again, the color muse is seaside living. There’s growing interest in gray and sandy-gray tones, although demand for deck boards that mimic exotic hardwoods hasn’t waned. (At Fiberon, our Horizon Ipe board remains the hands-down customer favorite.)

When it comes to deck building design, homeowners are injecting drama and personality in several ways:

Using two or more board colors together within a single space.
Adding an inset design to create a focal point.
“Picture-framing” a deck by installing darker boards around the perimeter.
Bright ideas for illuminating spaces

While candles will always be an easy go-to for adding ambiance (of course, never leave any lit candle unattended), more and more deck plans now include an integrated lighting solution.

Post lighting (cap or sleeve) can be used to highlight specific areas or brighten the entire deck. Riser lights on stairs or accent lights mounted flush around the perimeter improve safety and inject some drama. Low-voltage options consume minimal amounts of energy and can usually be installed easily by a builder. No electrician needed.

What’s hot in deck railing
When you think of unpleasant, time-consuming outdoor chores, re-painting wooden ailing has to top the list. It’s no surprise, then, that interest in composite deck railing continues to grow. And today’s homeowners know what they want: matte finishes, wood-like appearance, and infill options galore. Consider using metal (iron) balusters or aluminum balusters in lieu of wood to give a dramatic and unique look.

Symmetry Railing from Fiberon: a high-end look that’s delightfully low maintenance
When it comes to “must-haves,” Symmetry Railing checks off every box. It features an on-trend, matte white finish (by the way, more colors are in the works), it looks and feels like wood, and it works with traditional square balusters, round metal balusters, clear acrylic panels, and cable rail.

On the more technical side, Symmetry Railing features:

Rail lengths up to 12 feet for a more open backyard view
Easy installation, even on stairs
Sturdy aluminum sub-rail for added strength and stability
Hidden hardware for a clean, upscale look
Deck design tech
And since no trend post would be complete without something digital, here’s what’s hot in the decking world: online design tools. Designed for tablets and laptops, these tools are an easy, fun way to test design ideas or map out your deck space before consulting a contractor. The Fiberon Deck Design Tool, for example, lets you upload a photo of your home and then plan the deck space from boards to railings to lighting and grill placement. You can print out a detailed materials list right down to the number of fasteners needed, and find contact information for qualified local contractors.

Window Treatments

Current trends in window treatments

Are you planning to do a window glass repair or have a window replacement and thinking of the current trends in window treatments? The key words are simplicity and minimalism with an emphasis on crisp, clean lines. Gone are the days of heavy draped effects using jabots and swags; tab curtains or gathered valances, shutters like plantation shutters can add a whole new style to your windows. If you are wondering if any type of valances are still in style this post will answer the question. Contact TED at Plano Texas Handyman (214) 507-3415 to discuss your installation of window treatments or new window replacement.

Not a lot has changed since I wrote this post in early 2012. Because it is so popular with my readers I thought I would add updates that reflect 2015 choices. You might also like to check out Choosing Drapery Hardware.

Layering – While layering is popular, the overall look remains clean, and the palette is usually consistent for both treatments. Blending colours rather than contrasting ones work best when you want to layer treatments. Any type of blind can be used under drapes for a layered look, however, you can opt for custom blinds. Using custom blinds helps you get the window treatments you desire.

Apartment TherapyThis is an interesting look with drapes and two romans with the outer printed one stationary I suspect. I am not a lover of the partial rod because it creates a chopped look and I never choose dark rods with light drapes because the rod becomes the dominant feature as it is above. You can purchase rods with elbows that allow you to span the width of a bay window. This is a much more finished look. Window Treatments

Pattern is hot – When you look through new fabrics you are bound to notice that textures and patterns abound. You can’t go wrong with geometric patterns, trellis designs, large scale florals, bold colours, whimsical motifs etc. Window Treatments

Banding –  As per the local window replacement service, Vertical or horizontal banding is very popular and adds beautiful detailing and interest to any plain drape. You can add banding to good advantage if you want to add visual height or width to a space. Window Treatments

Wider drapes

Overall, drapes are getting longer and wider to accommodate the trend to make windows appear larger in scale which is a trending look right now. Lush materials like velvet and silk add to this look. Window Treatments

Tone on tone
The window treatments in the room below are simple, harmonious with the walls, and allow the view and the room to shine. When deciding the colour of your drapes or Window Blinds you should first consider the look/feel you want in your space. If you want restful, choose solid colour with texture and keep to the colour tones in the room. Window Treatments

Longer, looser pleats (5-6 inches)
While on a recent trip to Europe I noticed that pleats are getting softer and longer to provide a more contemporary and less formal feel in a room. There are many different headings to choose from to get the look you want . For Window Treatments you should contact J Younghans & Sons window replacement to fix the damage.

The inverted box pleat (back pleat), my personal favourite, is a soft but tailored look for modern decor. It has been replacing pinch pleat styles when a more clean contemporary feel is required. Lighter colours and tone on tone add softness to home decor. Window Treatments

Grommets have been around for a number of years and are definitely still in vogue. While some grommet drapes can look very informal, it is possible to have a more styled look too. The banded grommets below are a great example. Window Treatments

For grommets to look “lush” you need at least 7 or 8 folds at the top. That means purchasing two sets of ready made panels or have custom fully closing ones. .If you plan to open and close grommet panels daily be warned that you will spend a lot of time fiddling to adjust them so they hang nicely. Updated Sheers

Yes, sheers are still popular, but they are a world away from the fussy, frilly and lacy ones that the word sheer brings to mind. The “new” sheers have subtle iridescence and are interwoven with unexpected materials, or have embossed or printed patterns or contemporary headings as in the room below. Window Treatments

Roman Shades

Roman shades continue as a favourite for contemporary homes. Who can resist their clean lines and the options for amazing patterns? Because they are a flat construction the fabric needed is much less than full drapes. This allows you to upscale your fabric choice and make a real statement. I can’t say enough about Roman shades because they are my personal favourite. They have the ability to add a traditional and more elegant feel to your room, as well as to the overall interior design of the house. Roman shades are widely popular, so much so, that you can even find them at somewhere like this window shades delray beach company. You can get them from anywhere these days, and they really can enhance the features of your home. Their flat surfaces are almost picture like and work especially well in kitchens, eating areas and bathrooms.

Metal Blinds Return

Who thought we would see a resurgence in metal blinds? It’s driven by the popularity of stainless appliances, and other metals especially bronze in an industrial style loft living.

Woven Wood Shades
The trend to more eco-friendly materials has prodded this design aesthetic along. most are made from sustainable materials including: grasses, sisal, reeds or bamboo. Similarly, you could even opt for the Plantation Shutters Denver has to offer, and you can have them custom made. This adds a really natural sophisticated feel to your home.

They can be hung by themselves for a very contemporary look or layered with other treatments and provide additional insulation for your new windows. Options for cordless, corded, remote and top down/bottom up round out this very popular window treatment.
RollerShades

Roller blinds/shades are sleek, simple and very functional and economical as well. I can think of no other window treatment that solves as many problems as the roller blind:

  • they fit into tight quarters;
  • can be used as an inside or outside mount;
  • look great layered in a more traditional style or stand alone;
  • are available in a range of opacities from room darkening to almost sheer, and a range of colours;
  • choose from plain, patterned or textured;
  • are available in materials that are wipeable making them perfect for kitchens and bathrooms.

Hottest Flooring Trends

Floor Trends

Hottest Flooring Trends – In the flooring world, carpeting is getting softer. Wood is getting more roughed-up. Vinyl is getting more luxurious. And garage flooring like these garage floor tiles in australia is becoming far more useful and innovative. Homeowners also switching from ordinary floor to soundproof floor.

Yes, you read that right. “Luxury vinyl” isn’t a contradiction in terms — it’s the phrase du jour among those who pay close attention to the materials home buyers are eager to walk on.

“It’s the fastest-growing portion of the industry in the past two years,” according to Scott Humphrey, chief executive of the World Floor Covering Association, a trade group based in Anaheim, Calif., who said this flooring category has developed thanks to extraordinary photo technology that mimics wood (or just about any other material) so closely that you have to look twice to see that it’s vinyl.

But luxury vinyl is far from the only flooring product that’s drawing consumer attention. Here’s the New Home Source guide by flooring Campbelltown to what’s hot underfoot:

Carpeting

It’s getting more environmentally friendly to get carpet installers texas for a carpet installation to your room. A few manufacturers are creating fiber combinations that take softness to a whole new level, Humphrey said. “Everybody is making carpet that’s green,” he said. “They have factories that do this all across the United States. Shaw (Floors) is the only one that recycles nylon into carpeting, but a lot of companies melt down polyester and make new fiber over and over.”

Humphrey, who grew up in a carpet-manufacturing family, said he regards the development of softer textures as the cutting-edge trend in the business. “The thing that has been most surprising to me is the return of luxury carpet,” he said. “Some of it is the softest carpet I’ve ever felt.”

He particularly cited Shaw’s Caress line (nylon, with a new way of processing the fiber) and Mohawk Flooring’s Smart Strand Silk line (a nylon product that the company says uses three times the number of fibers of other carpet). Humphrey said the carpet industry was likely to follow suit.

In terms of carpet styles, the current favorite probably is a broad genre called cut-and-loop, in which the pile is partly cut and partly looped to create a sculpted look or pattern, he said. “They’re ‘heathered’ and multi-tonal,” explained Amber Shay, vice president of the design studio for Standard Pacific Homes’ Denver operation, which works with homebuyers to choose the features and finishes of their new homes. “The trend is more toward the patterned carpet, with a cleaner finish, and some personality to it.”

Shay said Standard Pacific customers in her area (flooring preferences tend to vary by region) who favor carpeting tend to use it in bedrooms and on stairs. If you choose to go with carpeted floors, consider a regular appointment with the local Carpet Cleaning to keep it a new.

Wood

With the advent of the “great room” concept that unites kitchen and family rooms into one expansive space, it’s become common to see hardwood flooring in kitchens, Shay said. “We’re almost always doing woods in kitchens,” she said. “With the great room plan, having consistent Garage Flooring is a big part of that picture, having the space ‘roll.’ ”

A popular route to take with wood floors are the laminate versions, she said. “(Laminate) is a thin piece of wood on a core that’s made of something else,” Shay explained. “It creates structural stability, so you have less movement in the floor and it’s less expensive than solid hardwood.”

Preferences in hardwoods are leaning toward darker stains, with a growing interest in gray tones, she said. “The trends are also toward larger planks or toward using multiple-sized planks and toward more exotic species — hickory, cherry, walnut.”

Look for more wood floors that have been hand-scraped and hand-textured, Shay said. Humphrey concurred: “People are willing to pay for a new floor, but they want it to look old.”

The options that polished concrete flooring Brisbane are offering are very attractive and a lot of home owners are in love with their work.

And in a related (and greener) vein, a growing segment of the market is interested in reclaimed woods, which have been salvaged from older residential flooring or even from old barns. “Or, a lot of companies are taking new hardwood and making it look old,” Humphrey said. “It’s like what happened with blue jeans — making them look worn.”

Bamboo flooring made a big splash in the industry some years back because it comes from an easily renewable resource, but the category gradually met with some resistance because some early versions were known to have shrinkage issues. “Bamboo is getting better,” Humphrey said of the recent incarnations. “I haven’t heard much about the shrinkage issue in a couple of years.” Look for bamboo to be produced in an array of colors and plank widths.

Luxury Vinyl

The “luxury” angle may be a bit of a stretch, but technology unquestionably has given some vinyls a whole new look. At its most basic, the process of producing it amounts to taking a photo of wood and printing it into the significantly less expensive vinyl flooring, usually in the form of squares or planks.

“But anything you can take a picture of, you can make it into vinyl tile,” Humphrey said. “It can go into various rooms — some of it looks like marble and people put it in bathrooms.”

Tile

Ceramic tile is getting bigger — literally. Tile in formats larger than the standard 12-by-12 inches are growing in popularity, though there’s a lot of variation in regional preferences, Humphrey said. You can hire a professional from tiling companies dublin to have it properly installed.

“And those digital prints that you see on laminate countertops and vinyl tile — they’re also doing that on ceramic tile, so that you might also see tiles that look like hardwoods,” he said.

In the Denver area, Shay said the biggest trend is toward “modular” sizes — rectangular tiles or 12-by-24-inch sizes. “We’re seeing lots of tile that looks like a fabric, or like wood,” she said. “Some of them have a concrete kind of look.”
